We asked for Artema RozhkovDirector of Logex transport company, tell the owners what they need to take into account when planning the transportation of the yacht.

1. What are the dimensions of your boat?

It is important to know the transport dimensions of the yacht and its weight, often they must be specified in the contract of carriage. The owner is responsible for the reliability of this information. In fact, they are also required for the calculation of the cost of transportation. If the yacht needs to be dismantled, the contract must specify who should do it.

The majority of boats and yachts are classified as large-sized cargo. Their parameters are specified in the special permit for transportation. Reliability of the data is checked by controlling authorities both at the stage of application and after issuance of the special permit, during transportation.

Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for clients to be wrong about weight, so we try to double-check the declared dimensions. For non-conformity of parameters the carrier faces a considerable administrative fine - up to 500 000 rubles. Often our employees go to the measurements or we use catalogues and the Internet. Sometimes this is enough.

We had a case when the client reported one weight, we did not check it, but in fact it was 5 tons more than declared.

The client paid the penalty, and we had to agree with him on the new cost of transportation, rework the special permit and submit another rolling stock.

2. Who's lucky?

When you buy a boat or yacht, the shipping service is often offered by the boat seller. On the one hand, it is convenient when the process of yacht delivery is controlled by one person - you can even overpay for it. It is also very convenient for the transport company, as it receives a certain volume of transportation under one contract. But, on the other hand, sometimes the client wants to save as much as possible and is looking for the cheapest carrier, which of course affects the quality of services. This can lead to the fact that he simply cannot get reliable information about the movement of his yacht. Cheap carriers usually do not have a new fleet, the car can stand on repair, and the client will be told that she is going so as not to run into penalties. Or the carrier will close its debts in advance and then prolong the deadline.

Do not be lazy to clarify the name of the company, get recommendations, visit the site of the carrier, see its completed projects - all this will later save you the nerves.

Price/quality ratio should be optimal.

3. What is the carrier responsible for?

Carefully examine the contract of carriage, pay attention to the availability of insurance and liability for accidents, as well as the procedure for resolving disputes.

The transport process always involves a certain risk.

Having full insurance or at least a carrier's liability insurance can greatly simplify the dispute resolution process. At the same time, it is useful to know the name of the insurance company and study the rules of insurance.

One of our clients insisted on insurance exclusively with his insurance company, citing good connections, although we warned him about our negative experience with it and recommended another. As a result, an insurance event occurred during transportation through the fault of a third party and his «insurers» found a formal reason to refuse. Subsequently, that company's license was revoked at all.

4. What's the luck?

Does not prevent you from asking what the cargo will go, to find out the make and model of rolling stock, you can even ask the year of production and photos.

Low level of control over the technical condition of vehicles by the state allows to use for the transportation of yachts almost heavy-loaded carriages.

A client has a right to know what his cargo will be carried on.

On the Internet you can find many epic videos and photos related to the transportation of boats. There is a known case of transporting a 40-foot boat on «KAMAZ» as a tractor and with a homemade semi-trailer! Naturally, the boat flew away from it at the nearest turn. Only a professional approach is needed to set up the boat and fix it. In some cases, the carrier has to solve problems in medium complexity physics to calculate the weight distribution of the yacht on the axles of the semitrailer.

In addition, there are technical solutions that make the transport process reliable. They certainly do not make it cheaper, but for many people the difference in price is not the main thing.

5. Which route will the carrier take and what controls does the carrier have?

It's useful to find out the route of transportation. This will allow you to control and predict traffic, it will allow you to plan your boat's descent more accurately. You can ask for an approximate plan of traffic, indicating the parking places of the train. It is useful to know if there will be overloads from one mode of transport to another.

Any professional transport

company has different monitoring solutions. For example, we have an online video surveillance system on the trucks.

The client always has the right to ask what solutions for monitoring transport has a chosen carrier.

When we first started our business, there was a case:

a Latvian truck with a yacht disappeared

on the

Riga-Moscow

highway in

Tver

region

. The driver was found then, but the rest was not.
