The French shipyard Beneteau started as a sailing yacht builder. But there is an opinion that designers specializing in sailing yachts also successfully design motor boats, as working with sailing yachts teaches them to create space for living on board literally out of nothing. Beneteau Swift Trawler 34 is a good example. The yacht has an asymmetrical layout: the starboard side passage, where the covered control station is located, is wider than the starboard passage. The control post has a door which, in an open and fixed position, blocks the starboard passage and prevents counter wind from entering the aft cockpit where people normally rest. The Beneteau Swift Trawler 34, a semi-displacement boat designed for quiet transitions, has demonstrated its reliability even in the northern seas. If operated in displacement mode, it also saves fuel significantly. In 2010, the Beneteau Swift Trawler 34 won the Motor Boat of the Year award in the category "Best Fishing Boat".
