Hundreds of surfers and dinghy paddlers honored Hobart («Hobie») Altera. On April 18, they all lined up around the Hobie Cat catamaran in California waters. Participants in the memorial ceremony splashed water and scattered pre-stored sand from the shores of Waikiki Beach, Hawaii over the water surface.

Hobie Alter is one of the founders of modern surfing. He was among the first to develop boards for the sport made of polyurethane foam and fiberglass. He was also involved in the development of Hobie Cat catamarans.

Seaman passed away last March at the age of 80 after a long battle with cancer.
