British Prime Minister David Cameron said he will support the British team in the America's Cup «». According to the politician, the government will allocate around £7.5 million to the crew. The amount will go towards preparations for the competition, covering some of the costs associated with participation in the regatta.

A little earlier the authorities also allowed Ben Ainslie Racing to form a training base in the city of Portsmouth - a base the prime minister believes will boost the region's economic growth.

It will be recalled that the British sailors, led by four-time Olympic champion Sir Ben Ainslie, announced their participation in America's Cup a few weeks ago. The team has challenged Team Oracle (USA) and will try to bring the coveted trophy back home in 2017.
