41-year-old designer Jonathan Dunnett plans to sail around the UK on a windsurfing board. The Essex native intends to sail without an accompanying boat.

The voyage will start on June 13, 2015 and will end in about three months: the amateur yachtsman plans to sail with stops.

Dunnett not only intends to set a new record, he also wants to help those in need: he is collecting donations for the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation and the Tanzanian Orphans and Widows Foundation.

Only three windsurfers have ever circumnavigated the British Isles: Tim Batstone in 1984, Keith Russell in 1999 and Richard Cooper also in 1999. All the athletes were accompanied by a motorboat.
