One hundred foot yacht Comanche has set a new record. The sailing vessel from Hodgdon Yachts covered approximately 620 nautical miles in 24 hours.

The record is currently untested and unrecorded by the World Sailing Speed Record Council but the crew are confident that it is the longest distance a monohull has traveled in a 24-hour period.

The previous «24-hour record» was set by Ericsson 4 in the Volvo Ocean Race 2008-09 season. At that time, 596.6 nautical miles were covered at an average speed of 24.85 knots.

The Comanche was launched in late 2014. Its owner, billionaire Jim Clark, boasted that the yacht was specifically designed to set records.
