Topshop owner faces trial over megayacht purchase

British businessman Philip Green, the owner of Topshop, needs to be careful when shopping: a year after selling clothes chain BHS to a little-known investor for £1, he bought his third megayacht, a 90-metre Benetti 'Lionheart'. BHS filed for interim administration on Monday, meaning it is on the verge of bankruptcy with debts of more than £1.3 billion. Its 11,000 employees are under threat of redundancy and many of them are not unreasonably pondering what role Green, who bought BHS in 2000, played in the bankruptcy of the 88-year-old retail brand.

The British businessman's purchase of yet another - third megayacht - has sparked public outrage. MPs initiated an investigation into the reasons that led to the bankruptcy of the major retailer and summoned Philip Green for questioning. Green responded by speaking unkindly about lawmakers, calling them «a gathering «f****** a*******s».

Benetti Lionheart is the largest yacht ever built by an Italian shipyard.

The exterior styling was developed by Stefano Natucci in collaboration with the Benetti design team. Green & Mingarelli Design created the interiors.

Lionheart is a displacement vessel with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. She has a sporty appearance with a distinctive wavy superstructure that connects her four decks. Lionheart has a cruising speed of 15 knots and a maximum speed of 15.5 knots.

The megayacht is estimated to cost £100 million.

Among the other two superyachts in Philip Green's garage is another Benetti, a 2006-built 63m Lioness V (ex. Lionheart).
