The first enclosure of the new Dominator Illumen 28M sold

Dominator Illumen 28M' s first hull has been sold, said yacht broker Bluewater, which is handling the deal. The boat, currently under construction at Dominator docks in Fano, Italy, has been named Kalli-Ente.

She will sail to her owner in spring 2017 and will spend her first season in the Western Mediterranean, namely the French Riviera, Corsica and Sardinia.

The owner of Kalli-Ente is an experienced yachtsman. He was looking for a boat less than 30 meters long that was capable of offering many of the options normally available on larger yachts. The Illumen 28M was the choice.

Three Dominator Illumen 28M hulls are under construction. The first will be the third boat to be launched: the owner will receive her in December this year. The second hull is destined for a buyer from Europe, who requested a hybrid propulsion system, which has slightly increased the construction time. By the way, this is the hull Dominator will be showing at the Monte Carlo Boat Show and other boat shows in Europe and the USA.

The Dominator Illumen 28M is the junior model in the Italian yard's new series of yachts, which includes 32-metre and 36-metre versions. The boat is designed by AM Yacht Design in collaboration with the Naval Head engineering team.

The smallest Illumen yacht was originally planned to be 26 metres long but during the construction process the hull was enlarged by two metres.

The semi-displacement High Performance Hull used in the Illumen range is designed by Dominator to reduce transient drag and is shaped specifically for Fortjes drives.

Under the «hood of the» Illumen 28M are two MAN V8-1200 engines. The propulsion system is completed by a system of counter-rotating propellers developed in collaboration with Reintjes.

The boat is equipped with a clever dual stabilization system based on the roll stabilizer and Humphree Active Ride Control interceptor system, which guarantees the lowest drag at any speed, thus increasing speed and reducing fuel consumption at the same time.

«Many boats incorporate zero speed fins. To avoid added drag due to protruding parts we have installed a huge gyro from Seakeeper, capable of reducing the uncontrolled roll angle to 14 degrees»," says Federico Brumat, Dominator's technical director.

The Illumen 28M is equipped with FischerPanda ISeries generators that use variable speed technology. This technology allows the speed to be adjusted according to the load on the power grid, increasing efficiency. The air conditioning refrigeration unit is similarly equipped with a variable-speed compressor drive and includes an adjustable electrical converter that controls the motor speed, varying cooling and heating output.
