The Russian Bronenosec Sailing Team won the coastal race of the TR52 Scarlino Cup regatta held on 27 May.
On the course off Punta Ala, the Russian team successfully completed the first leg of the 28-mile course. The Bronenosec 52 had been leading the way to the finish in the small island of Sparviero.
Since first competing in the 52 Super Series at Valencia last spring, the Bronenosec Sailing Team has won four of the six coastal races since then.
«I can't really say what the secret of our success is exactly in the coastal races," said team tactician Michele Ivaldi, "Before the start we don't change gear and we prepare like for a normal race. Perhaps the secret is that we have longer distances than in the typical races».
In the opinion of the skipper and helmsman Vladimir Liubomirov, the secret of success lies in the actions of the team: «Today both Michele and Adrian worked well, and success was not long in coming».
After a poor start to the new season in Scarlino, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club team needed a win. Thanks to this result, Bronenosec 52 was finally able to rise from eighth place to the top five. However, despite all the efforts, it was not possible to consolidate the result. After the coastal races of the Scarlino Cup three more races were held in which the team took 9th, 4th and 8th with a total of 46 points. As a result - sixth place in the overall stage standings with 1 point behind the top 5.
«The fact that third and eighth places are separated by just over 10 points speaks for itself - the fleet is very strong and the competition is at a high level - says the team tactician Michele Ivaldi - surely we are not satisfied with the result, we can do better and we will work on the mistakes. After all, we still have four stages ahead of us, the whole season».
The next meeting of the TR52 fleet will take place in Italy on 28 June as part of the Audi Settimana delle Bocche.
