Frigate «Nadezhda» got damaged during the race from Novorossiysk to Sochi

During the second stage of the Black Sea regatta of large sailing ships, the frigate «Nadezhda» damaged its foremast. The ship successfully made it to Sochi and is now undergoing repairs in the cargo area of Sochi port, Imeretensky.

It is planned to saw down the damaged fly-mast, and install a plug in its place, after which the ship will join the other participants of the regatta at the Marine Passenger Terminal of Sochi.

The foxtrot mast broke on the night of September 21-22, a few hours after «Nadezhda» caught and managed to outrun her main competitor, the Russian sailing boat «Mir».

«Nadezhda» was off the course and «Mir» confirmed her status as the fastest training sailboat for the second time in the regatta, winning the stage. Second place in class «A» went to Polish Pogoria and third place went to Bulgarian Kaliakra. In classes B, C and D the winner is again Russian «Akela».

«Sergey Vorobyev, the captain of» Nadezhda, said that the frigate is going to take part in the third stage of the regatta from Sochi to Varna (Bulgaria) which will start on September 26, despite the breakdown.

Currently the big sailing ships are moored at the Marine Station of Sochi and are open for visiting. The programme of events includes sporting events for their teams and the Parade of Sails.
