Commercial shipyard Ulstein Verft intends to enter the superyacht market with an 88.5m Explorer designed by renowned designer Espen Øino.

The Norwegian yard is not yet releasing official renderings of the project but we know it will be based on the well proven X-Bow platform.

The X-Bow's cruciform bow reduces wave impact by allowing the bow to pass smoothly under the waves as they pass along the sides.

The owner will receive a superyacht from Ulstein Verft in 2018. The vessel will be one of the largest explorers in the world.

This is the first superyacht project for Ulstein Verft, which has specialized in building commercial and support vessels for 99 years. Ulstein Verft is not the only commercial shipyard that has decided to enter the superyacht market. For example, Vard is building the 81.7m Kilkea and Kleven has built the 107m Explorer Ulysses.
