A new 74-foot catamaran worth €4 million lost its mast and sank in the Mediterranean Sea. There were five people on board the catamaran and they were recovered from the sinking vessel by rescue helicopter.

In high waves and strong winds of up to 50 knots, the catamaran's mast broke and fell to the deck, damaging the hull, after which the boat began to rapidly gain water.

This happened between Almeria and Alicante. Rescue services in Almeria responded to the call for help.

The boat was the first model of the seventh series of the French Privilege Marine shipyard. According to the owner, this was not the first time the catamaran experienced technical problems. The owner intends to sue the shipyard, writes Belgian clubracer.be. ItBoat contacted the shipyard and is waiting for an official comment. According to Privilege CEO Gilles WAGNER, there is incorrect information in the news published by the Belgian portal and the shipyard will seek a lawyer to refute it.
