Spring is here: broken ice drowns boats on the Danube

No sooner had Europe breathed a sigh of relief after the unprecedented frost, than a sharp warming brought with it other misfortunes. The quarter-meter-thick layer of ice that had covered the Danube River has now opened up and traveled downstream, crushing and carrying away numerous boats, pontoons and floating restaurants.

The air temperature in the Belgrade area soared from -20 to +10 degrees over the last weekend. The ice began to melt so quickly that the boat owners, relaxed in the warmth, did not have time to do anything. Now we only have to watch the ice drift and hope that the situation will not get even worse - for example, that such a rapid melting will not lead to flooding.
