The Extreme S ailing series races live up to their name time and time again. During the final competition in Brazil «a Danish SAP crew tumbled down». The boat was literally swept away by a powerful gust within seconds. During the jump from the catamaran the mainsail trimmer, British sailor Pete Cumming, was badly bruised, the rest of the crew were not injured. Cumming laments that «hurts a little» but he seems more worried that it is his first flip in seven years and of course that the accident has put the brakes on the team that SAP had a good run before in Florianopolis.

The Brazilian race (14-17 November) was the final race of the Extreme Sailing season. SAP is one of the leading teams of the year, they took fourth place in the overall standings. The Wave team , Muscat, moved up to the most honorable place on the podium. They were on par with Alinghi all year long, in the end Wave managed to win by 4 points. The third place was taken by Red Bull Sailing Team.

Recall that Extreme Sailing is a spectacular, coastal race, which became the ancestor of the modern America's Cup «» . Extreme 40 «catamarans take off» at 8 knots and require instant reaction and physical strength, dexterity and coordination, but in strong winds even very experienced teams face a tough time.
