The final round of the RC44 world series of regattas started on Thursday in Lanzarote, Canary Island.
This is the last and decisive battle in a prestigious class designed by the most titled yachtsmen of our time By Russell Couttswhere as many as 5 boats compete under the Russian flag. We certainly could not miss it! At the invitation of the team «Synergy» itBoat is present at the regatta and will of course cover the event to the fullest extent.
Already on approach, the portholes on the port side show a pandemonium of large sails on the water, with small RIB's running amongst them. They are ours! There is no one else on the water around the island: it's off-season. A couple of private jets belonging to owners of some participating teams are standing on airport platform away from passenger liners. In general everybody is packed. We made it just in time for the dock-in of the first race day.
The day didn't turn out to be very good. The wind was sour, in the middle of the day it was calm, so we managed to run only 2 races. First place went to American Ironbound.
«Synergy» at the end of day on ninth place (results in races 8-8). Strong middle of the fleet, but after the triumph at yesterday's match race and «gold» in Cascais, want more! There was, however, also a nice occasion for the team to celebrate. Artem, the son of «SYNERGY GRINDER» Egor Larionov, turned one year old. Artem with his mother Tatiana met yachtsmen on the pier and accepted congratulations. None of the regatta participants stood aside.
Not a bad result at Kirill Podolskywhich is now finally repainted in this class «dreams come true» Gazprom Youth Challenge: 3-6, the final place in the table - fourth.
In the meantime - some pictures on request «Lanzarote». This is one of the most unusual places on earth. Because of numerous (in the past) volcanic eruptions, the entire island is covered with mountains of solidified lava and basalt crumbs. There are no plants except for rare decorative palms in tubs. The main colors are black or dark-gray.
It looks like a space thriller about some not so friendly planet. But the island, like «Black Square», has its own minimalist aesthetic, and on the whole it turns out to be an excellent background for high tech carbon boat racing.
