Archaeologists have managed to unearth what is now believed to be «the world's oldest yacht». The vessel was found in the basement of a house on the Isle of Man, BBC reports.

The boat under the name Peggy was built for politician and banker George Kvaley in the period from 1789 to 1793. It was lost after the death of its owner and was not recovered until 1935, 120 years later.

«Peggy is simply one of the oldest surviving boats»," said Edmund Southworth of Manx National Heritage.

The conservationists are now planning to dig the boat out of the ground, study it and make sure it stays in safekeeping. Doing so will not be easy: according to the archaeological community, the basement with Peggy is littered with more than 50 tonnes of wet debris, and it could take up to seven years to restore the ship's appearance.
