Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has announced his desire to return to action. On November 2, 2014, the founder of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and the first person in the world to circumnavigate the globe non-stop from 1968-1969 will take part in the 3,500-mile solo race. The race will be the Route de Rhum Transatlantic Race.

At the moment Knox-Johnston, who is 75 years old, is the oldest competitor (total number of entries in different classes of boats is more than 80).

The sailor explained his decision to apply as follows:

«I participated in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in 2013 and remembered how much I enjoy competing. Singles racing is what I am most passionate about. No one influences the outcome but you. Everything is in your hands».

The legendary sailor last competed on the Route de Rhum in 1982, racing a 70ft catamaran named Olympus, also known as Sea Falcon .

This year's event will feature the Grey Power, an Open 60 Class multihull from France to Guadeloupe. Robin Knox-Johnston begins preparations for the big start in July.
