For the French crew of the MOD70 Spindrift, the race in Irish waters did not go well in the first leg. Starting off in a steep 22-24 knot wind with gusts up to 30 knots, the trimaran was at the end of the fleet and caught in the wind shadow. As the opponents pulled away, a sudden gust of air knocked the boat down.

Fortunately, everyone was alive. Jacques Guichard was the hardest hit and was taken to hospital with pelvic fractures.
