An immigrant from Afghanistan was rescued by the French coast guard while attempting to cross the English Channel on a makeshift raft. The 33-year-old Afghan intended to reach the British coast on a "watercraft" made of six planks, with a sheet instead of a sail and with no steering control at all. The man had 34 kilometres to cover.
