The maxi fleet warmed up on 9 December inSydney at SOLAS Big Boat ChallengeThe event was a prelude to the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. The race marked the first time the new 100-footer of Comanche of Netscape founder Jim Clark. She was competing against another giant, the eminent Wild Oats XIwho had won the Sydney Hobart Race seven times. Early in the race, the Comanches managed to take the lead, taking advantage of Wild Oats having spinnaker problems. However, by the end of the race the maxi record holder managed to catch up and come in first, overtaking his young rival by more than a minute. We look forward to more of this spectacular battle at the Sydney Hobart Race!
