Animals known as sailfish, or Velella Velella in the scientific name, have covered the beaches of the west coast of the United States with a blue carpet. These curious jellyfish drift on the surface of the ocean, catching the wind with a triangular outgrowth of a sailboat. However, in years when the winds change their usual direction, they are blown to land. A mass stranding of sailfish occurs every three to six years.
