On Sunday, in the presence of tens of thousands of spectators and under ideal weather conditions - the sun and a light breeze - the transatlantic single race Route du Rhum started from Saint-Malo. First held in 1978, the race is held every 4 years on the same route: from French Brittany to French Guadeloupe. This year RR has a record fleet of 85 participants divided into 5 classes. The vast majority of participants are French, sometimes diluted by single New Zealanders, Danes or Brits. None of the Russians showed up for the race.
The first boats will be finished in about a week.
