In 2012, an unusual yard added to the ranks of yacht builders. Vanquish Yachts, founded by Dutchman Tom Steentjes, creates fast boats for people with high expectations in quality and functionality.
The Dutch shipyard's portfolio includes custom-built boats and yachts from 16 to 90 feet. All boats are all aluminium except the VQ16, a mix of superyacht tender and jet ski. All have bright looks and high quality luxurious interiors. They are maneuverable, manageable and comfortable despite their speed. The Vanquish, ensures that even at the steepest bends guests will not splash their dresses, and the sun beds and sofas will remain dry.
Vanquish has worked closely with the owner since the start of construction. Hulls of different shapes are tested for compliance; the selected project is finalised according to the client's wishes. So many Vanquish models received unique features: one model received a garage for the Williams tender, another was enlarged by 6 feet, and a third was equipped with an outdoor galley.
«Rigorous thinking in the Vanquish team's genes is what we do best. We like to work with customers who think outside»the box," said Vanquish founder Tom Stangez.
At least take the Vanqraft VQ16. This 5-meter toy is equipped with 200 hp Yamaha 1.8 L water cannons and easily accelerates to 40 knots at full load, which is five people, not counting the driver. A loaded version of the Veloce will give you an adrenaline rush at over 55 knots. Thanks to water cannons, both versions of the VQ16 are easy to park in the tender garage. A typical example of the ingenuity of the Vanquish engineers and designers.
And here's another example. The VQ43 was so popular that an improved version of the Mk2 came out. The designers from Guido de Groot have been able to increase the width of the 13.35-metre boat and have achieved a larger galley area and ceiling height below deck that allows the cabin to be straightened to full height. On deck access to the forward rest area is provided through wide passageways on both sides, making the aft-to-fore walk as safe as possible. With a minimum draft of only 0.85 meters, the 43-foot model is the ideal companion for a superyacht, ensuring that guests are transported from side to side and back in comfort and style.
On the other side of the range, the Vanquish has an enviable eye for the VQ54: the embodiment of manoeuvrability, comfort and engineering genius that has given the 16-metre boat a garage that accommodates the Williams tender. The VQ54 has plenty of storage space for a variety of luggage, water toys and diving equipment. The owner of the first hull of the VQ54 calls it the «ideal boat for parties»: the deck is full of space, there are many options for placing tents and audio system. Two MAN i6-800s with six in-line cylinders, complemented by Arneson drives, are capable of accelerating the boat to over 45 knots.
«We create fast, fully customised boats with excellent manoeuvrability, offering maximum comfort, handmade in the Netherlands for demanding individualists»," says Tom Stangez.
The VQ65 propulsion system will consist of three MAN V12s of 1900 hp each in combination with Arneson drives. The Vanquish promises to keep the superyacht comfort on board. The deck will be able to accommodate 23 people at a time, while below there will be a cabin for two with a bathroom for him and her, a galley and a separate crew cabin with its own bathroom.
