Test drive of Russian version of Linssen Grand Sturdy 40.9

The Dark Rhine contrasts with the smiling Dutch family that has owned the Linssen Yachts brand since its creation in 1949. The keepers of the seafaring tradition make a piece of merchandise: only 100 hulls a year, but every detail of their boats is made directly at the shipyard in the small town of Maasbracht, from where we went to Amsterdam.

Today we are testing the boat Linssen Grand Sturdy 40.9 Russian Edition - winner of the prestigious European Powerboat of the Year Award 2009, slightly adapted to the harsh Russian conditions.

The boat seems impressive: its overall length of 12.85 m with a width of 4.30 m can accommodate 10 people. The sediment at full load reaches 1.2 m, which gives a displacement of 16.5 thousand kg.

There are only three cabins and they are all finished with cherry wood in the classic Dutch style. Sleeping will be comfortable: aft and forward there are double beds, in the guest cabin there are two single beds, and on the galley there is a double sofa.

The interior space in terms of volume is not comparable to most plastic boats of the same size: it contains not only a large number of beds, but also a salon with panoramic lighting, and separate showers and toilets. Ergonomics, the result of painstaking work by designers and engineers, is characterized by maximum functionality. Every little detail has been thought through here.

The Russian version has improved thermal insulation of the housing and window glazing for maximum «antifog»effect.

In general, not a boat, but a house on the water.

I am standing at the helm. I have in front of me a dashboard, which is finished in natural leather. Electronically, the «Raymarine ST-60 Triada» display with echo sounder data allows you to bypass unpleasant surprises hiding under water.

Let's set sail. The move is quiet and smooth. The engine compartment is equipped with a five-cylinder Volvo Penta D3 diesel engine with an output of 110 hp, spinning up to 3,000 rpm. This unit allows you to reach a maximum speed of 10 knots, while the cruise speed is only one knot less.

The noise insulation of the motor is so high that it is impossible to immediately understand whether the motor is running or not.

The low noise and vibration screw makes the journey slow and measured. A few more words about the shaft system: it's made using a patented water-intake cooling system, and the shaft itself is completely hidden in the keel. The latter runs along the bottom of the hull and reaches a thickness of up to 8 cm, while the rudder feather has special protection against grounding.

The tank in this modification is quite spacious - 820 liters with two level sensors: 50 and 25%. The range, despite its size, is impressive - up to 2 thousand nautical miles.

Such a volumetric tank was created especially for Russian rivers with different lengths.

In addition, the Russian version of this Linssen yacht has an additional safety system.

The boat costs a lot - 560,000 euros. The Dutch say that it is bought by those who are willing to donate a house in Sardinia so as not to be tied to one place. In Russia, it will appeal to those who want to explore the vast expanses of rivers and go out to sea.
