About

History of the company

Almost forty years ago, shipyard Dave Christensen decided to get his own yacht. When he could not find a decent option to meet his high requirements, he decided to build his own boat.

After finishing his first yacht, Dave thought that his experience and vision would be useful to other seafarers. That's how Christensen Shipyards, which builds luxury megayachts, came into being.

The boats of the shipyard have repeatedly become winners of various exhibitions. One of the last awards - from Boat International magazine in 2017 - was Chasseur yacht. The jury considered her to be the best yacht ever built at a shipyard.

Status

By 2015 Christensen Shipyards was in financial trouble and the company almost went bankrupt. The situation was saved by co-owner Henry Luken, who invested the missing money and bought the company from Dave Christensen.

Production

The company owns two production facilities. The factory in Washington State was the first, it occupies 17,000 sq.m. of indoor space. Up to nine boats can be built and maintained at the same time. The shipyard in Tennessee, which opened in 2012, has more than doubled its production capacity. It added an additional 42,000 sqm of workshops with 13 assembly halls.

Fleet

Christensen Shipyards produces premium mega yachts from 35 to 50 meters in length, with each boat receiving a fiberglass hull.

All models are designed for transatlantic crossings and long stays on board.

The largest yacht in the portfolio was the 50-meter D'Natalin IV launched in 2014.

Features

Christensen Shipyards stands out from other shipbuilders by trying to minimize the involvement of contractors. For example, even marble slabs, and the wood used for interiors, are processed by the shipyard itself. For this purpose, the shipyard has a large number of workshops, a sewing shop, a foundry and much more.

Modern technologies used in construction also deserve attention. Fiberglass plastic cases are cast by vacuum infusion method using own patented technology. Thanks to it the durability to weight ratio is seven times higher, than at standard methods of processing. In addition, the high reliability of the enclosures is ensured by multi-level testing, including the detection of faulty locations by heat guns.
