Designer description Fontaine Design Group

Brand History

The founder of the design company, Ted Fontaine, began his career with Ted Hood, who designed fast racing sailing yachts in the late 1950s. The collaboration was long and productive and after a while they started working as equals and in 1985 Fontaine was appointed Chief Designer of the Ted Hood Design Group. The company focused on offshore cruising sailing yachts, balancing speed and comfort. In 2001, Fontaine purchased the assets of Hood Design and founded its own company, Fontaine Design, on this basis.

Philosophy

«We enjoy helping clients meet their challenges, whether it's a new yacht or a refit»," says Ted Fontaine.

Fontaine Design Group offers unique projects with excellent seaworthiness, classic bow, comfort and safety and excellent dynamic properties. These are boats for yachtsmen who want to move quickly from point to point and expect long-term autonomy and reliability.

Speciality

The company designs sailing and motor yachts from 40 to 160 feet. Services also include exterior and interior design as well as refit projects. The company prides itself on an impressive list of regular customers in love with the classic lines, comfort and efficiency of these boats. In addition, the Friendship Yacht Company, part of the group, designs and builds sailing yachts from 40 to 53 feet.

Cooperation with shipyards.

As early as the 1990s, Fontaine had been expanding its activities into new market sectors and, in particular, the superyacht segment. The company has longstanding relationships and experience with Royal Huisman, Alloy Yachts, Holland Jachtbouw and Danish Yachts.

Landmark Projects

Since 1959, Hood/Fontaine's projects have proven to be amazing racing opportunities. For example, in every Newport to Bermuda race between 1989 and 1992, their yachts were finished first in class regardless of weather conditions. Pamina, Anakena and Surama have received numerous design prizes. Other boats such as Savannah, Chimera and Whisper have also become famous.
