On August 17, the Swedish stage of the prestigious world series ended. RC44 Championship Tour. Of the twelve teams that are fighting for the 2014 World Championships, five are Russian crews. The regatta was not an easy one for them: our victories were really brilliant, there were some offensive losses, but that's why sailing is interesting - it's always adrenaline, unpredictability and a lot of emotions!
In the fleet race in Marstrand, the first place was taken by the team... «Battleship» of Vladimir Lubomirov (36 points), and in the podium match-raid she got Team Nika Vladimir Prosikhin - third place and 15 points. Now for more details.
This year Marstrand Island pampered the yachtsmen with unusual warm and clear weather and pleasant moderate breezes, but on the first day of the competition the wind was still quite fresh, and on the last day of the competition it increased to 32 knots, so the race had to be cancelled.
Nevertheless, the range of conditions for the Sailing turned out to be the widest - the whole sailing wardrobe was used.
«That's why we all love Marstrand - it's unusually hospitable and there's always wind. Though sometimes it is too strong»," admitted Vladimir Prosikhin. He is pleased with Team Nika's performance in Sweden. On the first day, his team won a convincing victory in the match-race - for the first time in its history, the crew won all five races, beating such experienced rivals as Synergy and Bronenosec.
The chromed sailboat with the inscription «1 place» went to St. Petersburg team Bronenosec, the series of 2014 the team started at the bottom of the table, and now in the fleet races led the team classification. In the match race, seventh place so far.
«Younger teammates» of the «Battleship» team, the Gazprom Youth Sailing Challenge team headed by Kirill Podolsky, managed to grow up at this stage. One of the fleet races the guys won so cleanly that even the mega stars of yachting called it a benchmark.
«Let's not forget that RC44 regattas bring together the best yachtsmen in the world. Our «youths» have outperformed quite experienced rivals and in the team rankings went from the 11th to the 8th. The progress is obvious»," said Sergei Shevtsov, coach of the team. So, the eighth place is taken by the Gazprom Youth Sailing Challenge both in match-race (9 points) and fleet races (68 points).
Cameron Dunn, New Zealand coach of the Gazprom Youth Sailing Challenge and Bronenosec, summarizes the results of his wards.
Synergy Russian Sailing Team won the second place in the match-race (16 points), and this «silver at» least slightly brightened up the bitterness of defeat in the fleet races - there, alas, one of the strongest teams has so far only 11th position and 77 points. «The gold of the» match-race was taken by British Team Aqua (17 points).
«Katyush»a Marstrand's team took the fifth place in the match-race (11 points) and the seventh - in the fleet races (62 points).
The final regatta of the World Championship in class RC44 will be held in Oman from 19 to 23 November 2014. We will be rooting for ours!
