The series of video reviews on itBoat YouTube channel continues with the test-drive of another boat of the swedish brand Nimbus. This time, itBoat founder and creative director Nikita Gorchakov tested the 13.3-meter Nimbus 405 Flybridge, which can carry up to 12 passengers.

How to properly test Scandinavians: of course, in cold and rain!

The filming of the 405 Flybridge test-drive took place in 2020 in late autumn on a cloudy rainy day. So the itBoat team had the perfect opportunity to test all the main features of this all-weather scandy boat, especially those which are responsible for the comfort and convenience.

Under these conditions, the diesel heater, which is standard on all Nimbus yachts, and the well-thought-out system for draining water from the deck on the flybridge came in handy.

BTW, IT IS POSSIBLE TO “WARM UP” THE SALOON OF 405 FLYBRIDGE BEFORE YOU ARRIVE ON THE BOAT.

If the owner installs a special application on his smartphone, he is able to start the heater remotely.

The waterproof upholstery of the huge bow sunpad has also proven its worth. Even in the rain, it does not get wet, so in bad weather you don't have to think about where to put the mattress. In the sun, it dries very quickly.

Checked how you sleep in the smallest cabin

There are three double bedrooms on the lower deck of the 405 Flybridge.

The largest and most comfortable of them is the bow master cabin. It has a separate bathroom with a full shower. There is a skylight in the ceiling above the bed. Usually it is covered with a bow lounger. But if you remove it, an additional porthole will appear in the cabin. On a warm summer night, it can be opened to fill the bedroom with fresh air. A mosquito net will protect against insects.

In the midships (the boat is almost 4 meters wide in this area) there are two more modest guest cabins. They share one bathroom, in which a pull-out shower head connected to the sink can be used as a shower.

In the cabin on the starboard side there is a U-shaped transformable bed. Due to the removable section, it can be either a single bed for two or two separate single berths. There is enough space for two adults. In the cabin on the port side, children will feel more comfortable. It is the narrowest of the three.

However, in addition to the main cabins, 405 Flybridge has 4 additional berths. First, a sofa in the saloon can be turned into a bed. To do this, you only need to fold the dining table.

SECONDLY, YOU CAN USE THE CORNER SOFA IN A COCKPIT as a sleeping acommodation.

If you unfold and lower the table next to it, you can put a mattress on it. During the night, you will have to cover the entire cockpit with an awning to protect against insects.

How is it afloat? Raced it to the maximum

The 405 Flybridge was one of the first boats to be fitted with the latest generation Volvo Penta D6 engines. ItBoat got just such a yacht for a test drive with a pair of 380 hp motors in the engine room.

The tested yacht is equipped with all possible options for comfort and navigation, and even more: on the wide aft platform holders for the tender, capable of carrying a boat weighing up to 200 kg are installed; a grill is mounted on the rails on the starboard side; on the flybridge there are two lifeboats in special nests. Plus, the owner keeps extra fuel and diving equipment there. All this, of course, makes the boat heavier. Therefore, in terms of fuel consumption, the performance of the tested hull turned out to be worse than in the tests of new hulls from the factory: a modest 0.4 l / km for both engines in displacement mode turned into a tangible 3.5 l / km when entering a planing mode.

However, the boat copes with its task perfectly. It is truly an all-weather family cruiser: in the displacement mode, it does not prowl, it picks up speed smoothly.

“The boat is super! It is controlled perfectly, it is going well, it immediately goes to planing, has an adequate fuel consumption. Considering all the parameters: ergonomics, spaciousness, fuel economy — this is the best flybridge in this class. I hope that there will be more and more boats like Nimbus in all water areas of the world, ”Nikita Gorchakov said after the test drive.
