Category Description

A sailing yacht with a deck saloon differs primarily in terms of the height of the superstructure. Many boatbuilders have such yachts in their range, but each company sees this construction feature in its own way. Some manufacturers call the superstructure a deck saloon if it only slightly extends above the deck surface. If the superstructure is low, it is only a small increase in the height and interior volume of the yacht.

In other cases, it may be a full high superstructure similar to that found on motor yachts. In this case, the living quarters of the yacht receive a full upper saloon, and the lower deck can be fully dedicated to the sleeping area with all the ensuing large volumes of space and additional space for equipment or storage systems. The presence of a high superstructure certainly increases the resistance of the yacht and reduces its speed. It also leads to significant changes in the configuration of sails and rigging, but the advantages of having a cozy closed saloon with all-around visibility can hardly be overestimated.
