Category Description

This type of motor cruiser, which originated from flybridge and sports yachts, is relatively new but has quickly gained popularity. The main advantage of semi-open hardtop yachts manifests in regions with changeable weather or scorching sun: Passengers can take shelter from the elements under a rigid roof without losing contact with the sea due to closed doors. The feel of an open boat is usually complemented by a wide roof hatch, and in case of rain or cold wind, the cockpit can be quickly closed using the modular cover.

In other respects, hardtop yachts differ little from their sporty counterparts: depending on the length of the boat (usually 30–70 feet), the lower deck has one or more cabins, saloon, galley and bathrooms, while the stern often has a garage for tenders and water toys.

Being high-speed vessels, they are built using planing fiberglass hulls, have a range of 300 miles and are mainly designed for operation in calm waters, which implies short-term outputs to the sea.
