Modern wooden boats are, above all, a tribute to the traditions and aesthetics of boats of the past. From the point of view of durability, labour input in manufacture and practicality, wooden constructions are considerably inferior to qualitative composite and metal hulls. However at the expense of intensive use of multilayered polymeric coverings wood manages to be well preserved, therefore with proper care, lacquered boats can keep excellent appearance for a long time.
The classic design of wooden boats dictates the presence of a transom with a reverse angle of inclination, so the vast majority of models are equipped with rowing shafts. The latter are usually associated with very powerful stationary motors, as high speed is an essential feature of a wooden gentleman's boat with analogue devices and a rare kind of steering wheel.
As an exclusive product, wooden boats are in demand among collectors, lovers of retro style and are often used as tenders on superyachts where classic wooden runabouts are also in great demand. Of course, such wooden toys made of mahogany and teak are worth several times more than their standard fiberglass cousins!
