Category Description

In days gone past, only yachts above 40 feet in length could boast a flybridge, but modern materials and technology, as well as market demand, have formed a niche for small flybridge boats from 24 feet in length. It is dangerous to cross this lower boundary as the centre of gravity of a small boat with passengers on the bridge is too high, which reduces stability and threatens to overturn.

Originally, these small flybridges were designed for fishermen who could feel the wood of fishing rods and watch their prey and tackle from a comfortable vantage point. On such an upper bridge there is often barely enough space for two chairs opposite the control station, and in many cases only a narrow, almost vertical steel ladder leads there.

Many high-speed boat models have a tent structure and a windscreen on the flybridge, and the wave control is very similar to a traditional Mexican rodeo! It is the possibility of being behind the wheel in the open air that motivates amateur yachtsmen to choose closed boats with a mini-flybridge: even if it is small, it is like a real yacht!
