History of the company

The Swedish shipyard Wasa Yachts was founded in 1975 on the basis of Södertälje Yacht Service, which provided seasonal sailing yacht service. The site was located in Södertälje, near Stockholm. The company owes its sustained success to the cooperation of two professionals, Hans Marklund and Leif Ängermark. Hans took over production management and the design work was fully controlled by Leif.

This partnership has formed the basis of business for the next forty years.

Even now, having moved away from direct business management, Hans Marklund remains the company's chief advisor. Since its foundation, the shipyard has built over 500 yachts of the highest quality and reliability. Almost all of them remain in operation to this day.

Status

It is still in operation. In recent years the company has reduced its production in Sweden by opening a joint venture in China. The resources of the Swedish site have been redirected towards service work on damaged hulls, engine replacement, teak coatings and seasonal storage and maintenance of yachts.

Production

The company's formation took place during the GRP revolution, when the mass use of GRP changed the entire concept of yacht hull construction. As one of the pioneers of new technology, Wasa has used the most advanced processes and materials throughout its history.

Traditionally, a laminated sandwich with a balsa core is the basis of the design and the shipyard has a virtually closed production cycle. The company employs about 50 people. The production volume has been reduced to several hulls per year.

Model range

The shipyard now offers custom production for sailing yachts from 37 to 53 feet. All models are CE certified in Category A (Ocean) and have good racing performance in the cruising class.

Features .

The ideology of Wasa Yachts is based on creating family racing cruisers capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of the northern seas and oceans. The hulls, with a reinforced to 40 mm bottom made of solid laminate, at the same time remain relatively light. The raised sides, which provide more comfort in cabins and a safe ergonomic cockpit, are the hallmarks of the yard.
