The Flying Fox is a luxury superyacht built by the renowned German shipyard Lurssen, famous for building some of the world's largest and most impressive yachts. Flying Fox is the world's 14th largest yacht in terms of length, measuring 136 meters (446 feet). She was originally named Project SHU but was later renamed Flying Fox after her delivery in 2019. The yacht features a stunning exterior design by Espen Øino and an interior design by Mark Berryman Design.

Flying Fox is one of the largest yachts currently available for charter, and among the top 10 most expensive yachts ever built according to itBoat. It is interesting that such a large yacht ended up being named after such a small aquarium fish - a flying fox, certainly there is nothing small about this yacht. The Flying Fox offers guests the ultimate luxury experience with an impressive range, unique features, and stunning design, it is no wonder it is one of the most sought-after yachts for the high end luxury charter. The yacht is a testament to Lurssen's superior craftsmanship and is a true work of art. The yacht can accommodate up to 25 guests in 11 suites with 55 crew members on board to cater to guests' needs.

Exterior Design

Flying Fox's exterior design, created by award-winning Norwegian designer Espen Øino features a curved and sleek silhouette with a dove grey hull and boasts 7,000 square meters of curving exterior space, offering a spectacular array of options.

One of the yacht's standout features is the 12-meter swimming pool on the main deck aft, which runs transversely and is a first for a superyacht of this scale. The pool's unique orientation was a deliberate choice by the owner and designer to maximize space and minimize impact on the yacht's other amenities. The pool is surrounded by ample sun loungers and seating areas, offering guests a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the breathtaking views.

The yacht also boasts two helipads that are capable of accommodating the largest helicopters on the market, making it easy for guests to travel to and from the yacht. Additional features include a wide beach area and a number of swim platforms, allowing guests to easily access the water for swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities.

Interior Design

The Flying Fox offers an opulent and modern interior designed by Mark Berryman Design. With a total of 11 suites, the yacht can accommodate up to 25 guests. The master suite includes its own study and a his-and-her bathroom. Each suite boasts a private sea-view terrace and elegant furnishings, creating a comfortable and luxurious experience for guests.

The interior of Flying Fox is defined by its spaciousness and exceptional attention to detail. The use of natural materials such as oak and limestone, combined with modern design elements, creates a welcoming and contemporary atmosphere. The yacht features a movie theatre, beauty salon, spa, and a stunning fireplace in the main salon, providing the perfect place to relax and unwind. The two-floor spa is a standout feature, offering a range of treatments and therapies, a gym, sauna, hammam, and massage room. The spa’s heated limestone floors and louvred oak panelling provide a warm and serene environment, making it the perfect place to escape and rejuvenate. When a boat is this big, it can be difficult to give the interior a cosy and secluded feel. But in the case of Flying Fox the designers succeeded planting for example four meter high trees in tubs were planted to liven up the two-story lobbies.

«My favorite thing about Flying Fox is its two-level space»," interior designer Mark Berryman says.

Performance

Powered by twin MTU engines, the Fkying Fox can comfortably cruise at a speed of 15 knots, reaching a maximum speed of 20 knots with a range of up to 6,500 nautical miles from its 682,500-liter fuel tanks at cruising speed. Bow and stern thrusters, state-of-the-art navigation and communication systems, and advanced stabilizers that reduce roll motion during navigation should be considered default features for a yacht of this catgeory.

Owner

Although there were rumors that the yacht was owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, these rumors were denied by Bezos and his company. The owner of Flying Fox is reported to be Dmitry Vladimirovich Kamenshchik, a Russian businessman and entrepreneur who made his fortune in the airport industry. Kamenshchik is known for his love of yachting and has owned several other luxury yachts in the past.
