By the time he bought Octopus in 2003, Paul Allen had already owned a yacht commissioned by his compatriot Craig McCaw for two years. Tatoosh was rumored to have cost him approximately $100 million. Kusch Yachts designed the exterior of this high, but elegant-looking vessel. The interior design was assigned to the famous Terence Disdale. Two 4,400 hp Deutz engines give the yacht a top speed of 19 knots. In 2003, the yacht underwent an in-depth rebuild.
