Sonja Baumstein of the United States, who set out on a trans-Pacific rowing boat, was forced to stop the voyage.

Bad weather caught up with the yachtswoman 155 miles off the coast of Japan. She signaled a distress call and was rescued by Coast Guard forces.

Because the storm damaged important equipment, it was impossible to continue the trip.

Recall, 30-year-old traveler planned to overcome the Pacific Ocean without any stops on a rowing boat from Kevlar and set a new record. Previously, women had not been able to conquer the route (from Japan to the United States, a route length of more than 6,000 miles) alone.
