The small wooden boat of fans, who had put out to sea to watch the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart race, began to sink near the nudist Lady Bay Beach.

The boat was on its way to shore when holidaymakers heard the screams of the people on board. The boat began to leak and picked up water. A group of naked men rushed into the water and brought a family and child to shore.

A total of 600,000 spectators gathered at the start of the Rolex Sydney Hobart in Sydney Harbour. The race had already been won by the 100-foot sailboat Comanche.
