Robin Knox-Johnston finished the Route du Rhum third in his class

Seafarer Sir Robin Knox-Johnston finished the Route du Rhum transatlantic race third in his class. The 75-year-old veteran crossed the finish line on Saturday, November 22, 20 days, 7 hours, 52 minutes and 22 seconds after the start.

The legendary athlete, who was the first to sail non-stop around the world 45 years ago, said he was happy with the result:

«I am absolutely happy to come third. I didn't think I would be this high when I started the race».

Knox-Johnston covered 4,416 nautical miles at an average speed of 9.06 knots and finished three days behind Rhum class winner Ann Kazanew.

Recall that the overall Route du Rhum winner was Loïc Peyron, who renewed the race record and tackled the course in 7 days, 15 hours, 8 minutes and 32 seconds.
