Two of the three Russian athletes competing at the Olympic regatta in Rio on August 8 finished the first day of competition with good results, placing in the top five.

Sergey Komissarov, competing in class «Laser», came in second in the first race and ninth in the second race, finishing fifth overall on the day.

Windsurfer Stefania Elfutina was also second in the first RS:X race. She finished fifth in the second race and third in the third race. As a result, Stefania now holds the second place in points, only behind the Frenchwoman Charline Picon.

Maxim Oberemko representing Russia in men's RS:X had no luck: during the regatta he faced unforeseen technical difficulties and managed to get only 22nd place after three races. He has 66 points on his record, while the leader of the competition, Briton Nick Dempsey got only 4 points. However, RS:X class racers have 9 more races ahead of them, during which many things may change.

Laser and RS:X races will continue today at 19:15 and 19:20 Moscow time.
