Russian Championship in Olympic and International classes ended in St. Petersburg

After three calm days in St. Petersburg, the awards ceremony for the Russian Open Championship in Olympic and International classes took place on September 11. Sets of medals were awarded to the winners in eight classes of yachts that completed six to nine races.

Most «gold» superiority of the country were taken away by athletes of Togliatti and Moscow - 4 medals of the highest value, the same number of medals will remain in St. Petersburg.

Three gold medals won athletes from Anapa, two medals from Vladivostok and one - from Taganrog and Azvorians.

About 230 athletes from 40 regions of the country took part in the competition, joined by a large fleet of athletes from Minsk.

The largest fleet gathered Laser 4.7 class - 75 participants. Semyon Mekhanikov, from Taganrog, the future winner of the event, had not a very successful start, but from day 2 he was in the lead in the U18 classification. At the awarding ceremony Semyon received a certificate of Master of Sport title from senior coach Anastasia Chernova.

In women's Laser 4.7 class (and in U16 girls class) was left far behind Elizaveta Borovkova from Yachting Academy, Saint Petersburg Yacht Club.

In class Laser Radial predictably won the favourite of the competition, the winner of the championship of the world Daniel Krutskikh (Sailing Academy). Maria Kislukhina (Vladivostok) confidently held competitions in the new class. While in 2015 she was third in Laser 4.7, now she is second in the overall standings «Radiala» and first among girls.

There was a generation change in Laser Std class. In the absence of Maxim Nikolaev and Dmitry Tretyakov, Kirill Evfimevsky (Anapa), the silver medalist of the 2015 championship, moved up to the first line. He was just a little behind Ivan Krivobokov (Samara), the winner of the 2015 U19 Championship. Nikita Klementyev (Anapa, bronze of championship «Radial» 2015) closes the top three in «Standard» U21. In the junior competition, the second and third are for Nikolay Doroshenko (Taganrog) and Viktor Greznov (Tver).

The real test of the Championship of Russia was for «Scythians». On September 7, 49er class could not finish the race, and fleet 29er competed 11 of 17 participants.

There was a serious fight for leading positions in 29er class between crews from Moscow, Togliatti and St. Petersburg. «Early leaders of the offset, Lazdin/Araslanov (Togliatti) became the third, the second line of the offset was taken by more experienced», Volochkov/Kanafyev crew. The victory was celebrated by Muscovites Ushkov/Zubkov. Leonid Pushev, the winner of the 2015 championship, moved down to fourth place with his new helmsman, Vasya Andreev.

Zoya Novikova (winner of the 2015 championship) retained the lead in the women's standings. Mishina/Ohvat crew finished second, while St. Petersburg duo Taran/Soloveychik finished third.

In the 420 class, the boys took revenge for the 2015 Togliatti championship and the 2016 championship. Winners of both competitions, the crew Ermakova/Markelova (Togliatti) started the competition with a false start and although they topped the girls' standings, they ended up fifth in the overall standings. With three firsts in six races, Azov's Chesov/Papyshev celebrated victory in the boys' standings. Early leader of the standings, crew Lepin/Karelin (Dolgoprudny) moved up to second place, while 2016 championship medalists Vorobiev/Vakhrushev close the top three for the boys.

In the girls' tai-break silver went to the crew from Moscow Pirogova/Sarbucheva, bronze went to the team from Krasnodar Territory, the crew of Filonov/Batova.

There was also a change of leader in the 470 class. The winners of the 2015 championship Cheh/Cherenkov topped the standings after the second day of the competition, while last year's silver medallists Grigorin Ryabov/Safonov moved down to fourth place. The silver and bronze medals among the young men were divided between the crews of Banayan/Berdnikov and Kucherenko/Moskvichev from St. Petersburg after a fierce battle. The opponents were separated by just two points.

Anna Ilyukhina and Angelika Chernyakhovskaya took the first place in the women's rating. The winners of the 2015 championship Shoikhet/Pustynkova finished second. The third place was won by the crew from Dolgoprudny Lepin/Myakisheva.

In the Nacra 17 class, Togliatti Zhukova/Sudachkov are in the lead. The 2015 championship winners are Sheludyakov/Bakhmatyeva from Rostov.

In the 49er class, thanks to two victories on September 8, the Makarov/Marinichev crew from Moscow took the lead. Ushkov/Boboshko moved up to second place; Goncharov/Yelchaninov from Togliatti got bronze medal of the championship.

The next meeting of the fleet of Olympic classes will be held during the Russian Championship in Sochi on October 7-14.
