The penultimate round of the world championship in the RC44 class, RC44 Cascais Cup, started on September 21 in Cascais, Portugal. On the first day teams competed in match-race format.

Russian «Armadillo» won 3 points after 7 fly-offs with participation of 9 teams, and Team Nika achieved 4 victories, holding the leading position.

However, the Swedish Artemis Racing performed even better, managing to secure five wins and equalizing with Team Nika in the overall standings.

«Armadillo» came close to Artemis Racing, but lost two points due to an incident at the start in a match race against Team Charisma.

«The Battleship's transom» touched Charisma's hull on tacking with just a second to go, for which the Russian team was penalised under the strict class rules.

However, another Russian team, Viktor Filippov's Blackwater, was even more unlucky.

After a successful start against «Nika» the Blackwater grinder fell out of the boat. It happened for the second time in two days.

The first was in training before the competition. Such bad luck is a real anti-record in the RC44 class championship.

The fleet race starts in Cascais today at 12 noon and will last four days.
