Due to stormy weather in the waters of the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland, the Russian championship in the classes «Quarter Tonneau» and Open800 - ITL Sailing Cup 2017 came to an early end. Based on the results of the five races held, none of the reigning national champions defended their title.

The races took place in strong, almost stormy winds. The competition program included a combination of coastal races with route courses.

Having started on June 25 in the yacht club «Dubkovaya Bay» with a coastal race of 20 miles, the fleet set out on a distance to the island of Gogland. The yachts took the finish line from midnight to morning.

It did not go without breakages and curiosities. Two yachts lost their masts, and two more briefly entered Finnish territorial waters, and had to negotiate with border guards.

The yachts that lost their masts joined the fleet in the settlement of Sovetskiy, where the second crossing of the regatta was completed.

«The guys did a great job - they are "Guron" and "Principle". To repair the mast Maxim Gershkovich, the president of the Quarter Ton Class Association and captain of Guron yacht, even went to Moscow! » - said Dmitry Zhayvoronok, Vice-President of the Open-800 Class Association.

The yacht «Princip» even managed to finish second in the final route race from the village of Sovetskiy to the Yacht Club «Dubkovaya Bay».

According to the results of the competition the crew of the yacht «Globus» (St. Petersburg) became the new Russian Champion in the Open800 class. The crew won with an advantage of 2 points the Champion of 2016 - the yacht «Omega».

Third place was taken by the yacht «Vostok», which managed to keep its result with 1 point advantage to the crew «Azimut». The latter, in turn, after winning the Sovietsky, lost bronze in the itinerary race, finishing seventh.

In the «Quartertoner class» the 2016 Russian champion «Quartet» has been left without any medals this season and finished fourth. With three wins in five races, the title of champion was confidently won by Nizhny Novgorod's crew «Real». The second place in the regatta was taken by «Berkut crew», while Vento crew finished third.

«This year's championship was really competitive and difficult, the crews passed real sea trials, and the more valuable is the victory, - said Dmitry Borodin, Regatta Director, - We hope that next year's championship will gather even more participants».

This year 20 crews competed in the ITL Sailing Cup 2017 regatta in the «quarter-tonnage class» and 9 crews in the Open800 class.
