Act 6 of the Extreme Sailing Series regatta was completed in Cardiff. The Danish SAP Extreme team won in a tight battle with the reigning champions Alinghi, thus regaining the overall leaderboard that was lost in the last act.

A total of six races were held on the final day of the competition in Cardiff.

Somewhere in the middle of SAP Extreme briefly gave up. The Swiss Alinghi immediately jumped at the opportunity and by the final race, the points of which are doubled, were close behind the Danes.

But an unfortunate start to the last race dashed Alinghi's hopes for first place. The team's catamaran was trapped between the umpire's boat and Oman Air's boat. As a result, Alinghi won silver, rehabilitating themselves after a disappointing fifth act in which they were penultimate, while Oman Air rounded out the top three.

«Oman Air skipper Phil Robertson admitted the stage in Cardiff was very challenging for his team», so he is happy with third place. « We're the only team so far that's got a podium in all the stages that have taken place»," he said.

The Red Bull Sailing Team, led by two-time Olympic gold medallist Roman Hagara, swayed towards the end of the stage with their first and only win in the penultimate race. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to make the podium.

NZ Extreme Sailing Team, with America's Cup champion Josh Junior at the helm, finished fifth. But the New Zealanders won the Zhik Speed Machine trophy for the top speed in Act 6 - 23.2 knots.

The tournament table was closed by two British teams - Land Rover BAR Academy and Team Extreme Wales.

The competition in Cardiff completes European stage of Extreme Saling Series. Now the series will move to America. From October 19 to 22 the competition will be held in San Diego. Then the racing village will move to Los Cabos, Mexico. Both cities are hosting the regatta for the first time.
