Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo announced the launch of a new range of hybrid and all-electric E Motion yachts at the Düsseldorf Boat Show 2018.
«Yachting is now in a new era. Diesel-electric and all-electric propulsion systems are the sustainable realities of today»," said Tilli Anton elli, who has been instrumental in the development of the E Motion range.
The hybrid diesel-electric system will be fitted to the yard's junior models, while the larger Sanlorenzo family will be powered by electric motors powered by four alternators and lithium-ion batteries.
The first models in the E Motion range will be two 27-metre yachts Sanlorenzo SL86which will be launched in May and December of this year.
The upgrade process will culminate with the release of the Sanlorenzo 62 Steel E Motion in 2020.
The recently unveiled project Sanlorenzo 44 Alloy will also be available in the E Motion version, with the additional 11.4 square metres of its beach clubhouse space easily accommodating a 7-metre tender.
Another yacht in the first line of upgrades will be the 500EXP, which is scheduled for completion in 2020. The refined version will have direct access to the beach club from the guest area through the heart of the engine room.
Key benefits of the state-of-the-art system include improved safety on the water, increased fuel efficiency and low vibration levels that provide greater passenger comfort.
The innovative changes in the company's life do not end with the refinement of the propulsion system. Sanlorenzo « is teaming up with strategic partners», whose name is being kept secret, to develop a range of all-electric tenders for superyachts.
The Italian shipyard took its first step into the world of electric superyachts with the 2015 launch of a hybrid model SL106. Today there is little doubt that green technology in shipbuilding will eventually become the norm rather than the exception.
