The seventh and penultimate round of Extreme Sailing Series 2017, which started on 19 October in San Diego, ended with the fourth victory of the Danish SAP Extreme team for the season.

The main rival for the leader in this competition was the Swiss team Alinghi. The silver medal brought the team close to the second place in the overall standings, they are now only one point behind Oman Air.

Oman Air and Red Bull Sailing Team fought for third place in the race, but the Oman-flagged syndicate earned a penalty and had to watch the Austrians head for the podium.

New Zealand's NZ Extreme Sailing Team, after winning two events in a stage, eventually gave up ground and found themselves in fifth place.

The Land Rover BAR Academy team had to sit out two races due to boat problems. The skippers were unable to rehabilitate themselves once back in the fleet, finishing sixth.

Seventh and eighth places were divided between Team Extreme San Diego and Team Lupe Tortilla Demetrio, who joined the field on wild-card rights.

The final winner of the 2017 season will be determined very soon - the final race, in which the leader's points are doubled, will start in a week. It will take place in Los Cabos, Mexico from November 30 to December 3.
