UAE builds flying hybrid yacht

Enata Marine Shipyard has unveiled a 9.45-metre yacht Foiler with carbon fibre fenders and a hybrid engine.

Two curved foils lift the Foiler one meter above the water. In planing mode the boat can reach up to 40 knots.

The hull and fender design is such that the boat feels virtually rock-less, hovering above the water with minimal resistance even in waves up to half a metre high, and generating three times fewer waves than a conventional boat.

Two BMW diesel-powered 320 hp engines are complemented by a pair of BMW lithium-ion battery-powered electric generators. With the electric motors alone, the yacht can travel at 10 knots for 10 minutes - indispensable when cruising in ports and environmental protection areas, as in electric mode Foiler is silent and environmentally friendly.

Thanks to the hybrid propulsion system, the yacht is more economical when cruising with the main engines running. At 30 knots she can travel 130 miles on a single 300-litre tank.

Foiler's underwater wings and propellers fold in.

This is very handy when the boat is used as a tender for a superyacht.

The yacht can take on board up to 8 people.
