The Spanish island of Lanzarote hosts the last battle of the season in the RC 44 class, kicking off today with a match race.
Defending the match-race champion title won last year will be a Russian sailing team «Synergy». She has 16 points on her account, currently third in the standings. It is one point ahead of Russia's Katusha and three points ahead of Britain's Aqua. The difference is small, and it gives «Synergy» chances to win.
Two days before the start, the team was unlucky to find a crack in the mast, which took the boys overnight to fix. On the other hand, had the breakage occurred during the race, it would have been more unpleasant, and the time loss would have affected the results.
We will know the winner of the fleet races on Sunday when the results of the four race days will be summed up and the best crew of the season in this format will be revealed.
