On February 16, a boat crashed at high speed into two moored yachts in Auckland, New Zealand. Four people were injured, reports The New Zealand Herald. According to the edition, the motorboat was steered by a young couple. The skipper failed to control the boat.

Fisherman Jason Hoff witnessed the accident: «There was no light on the boat. First I saw him rush towards me at 50 kilometers per hour and then he smashed the stern of one of the boats. The boat was thrown up heavily, it hit the pontoon and plunged back into the water. Had it not been for the pier, the boat would have crashed into me and my mates».

Hoff also said it all happened half an hour before midnight. According to him, there was a family on one of the boats and they were asleep at the time. The noise woke the adults, and one of them helped pull the people out of the water a little later. The most injured was a woman, who was on the boat. Eyewitnesses report that her legs and spine were injured and she could barely move. Her companion was also injured, but slightly less so.

«As the boat sank, the guy kept screaming about hoping for the insurance company. It was clear that he was expecting to be reimbursed. But he wasn't worried about people's health, he was worried about the boat», fisherman Jason Hoff reported.

As a result, the injured were taken to a local hospital. One person was seriously injured, two others were moderately injured, and one person was hospitalized with minor injuries. The circumstances of the incident are being determined.
