Swan 120, sailing superyacht with a secret in the transom

At the Monaco Boat Show, Finnish shipyard Nautor's Swan has unveiled the design for the sailing superyacht Swan 120. The naval architecture and exterior of the 36.5mSwan 120 has been designed by Nautor's Swan's in-house designer Herman Frers, with whom the yard has collaborated since 1980. The hull lines curve smoothly towards a broad stern, which guarantees the boat stability.

The transom of the Swan 120 is a secret: its rear part opens fully and swings out into the water.

Aft of it you will find the tender garage. When the 4.5m tender is launched the garage and the swim platform, played by the flip up transom wall, form a large 215sqm beach club.

On deck the coamings are extended beyond the double helm station. In the copse there are long sofas and tables for lounging. Another sofa can be placed around the exit to the lower deck aft.

In addition to the saloon located amidships, there are four comfortable en-suite staterooms and crew quarters below deck. There are two possible layouts for the lower deck, with the crew cabin fore or aft. The layouts differ only in the layout of the cabins. All the bulkheads, hatches and supply systems are located in the same way. This was achieved by using the same layout matrix for both layouts.

An optional extra row of windows can be made in the hull. According to Nautor's Swan superyacht line manager Piter Naeye, this decision has been the subject of considerable discussion between himself and Herman Frers - it breaks the harmonious lines of the hull. But the saloon offers even more light and views of the water, with additional windows just above the two sofas which can be made into large couches.

The interior design is by Misa Poggi . The Italian has already worked with Nautor's Swan on the smaller Swan 98 Maxi-series model. She created three design packages for the Swan 120: «timeless classic», «wine» using burgundy colour, «traditional nautical» design with accents of navy blue . Another interior design option was developed by the boatyard's design team and is named Spirit of Finland. As you might expect from the«spirit of Finland», there is a lot of white color in the color scheme of this variant. Premium Italian leather and textiles are used for the interiors.

The hull and deck of the Swan 120 is made entirely of carbon fiber. The base boat is equipped with a fixed keel and has a draft of 4.5 metres. However, she can be fitted with a telescopic keel which enables her to reduce the draft to 3.5 metres.

The racing version is equipped with a 3m bowsprit with waterstag, mainsail with square top and a portable buckstag. An optional concealed anchor winch is also available.

Prices for Swan 120 start from 16 mln euro.

The boat has a generous basic equipment, which allows you to put the sails and immediately use her for cruising somewhere in warm seas. The model is seaworthy enough to sail around the world, but in this case, of course, the basic equipment is not enough.
