Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts has published a video narrating the progress of the conversion of the 68.2m Sanaborg. This is reported by Boat International.
The boat, which was formerly an icebreaker, is now continuing her step-by-step transformation into a luxury expedition vessel - Project Ragnar. Eventually the steel Sanaborg, built in 2012 and arriving for a total refit to Icon Yachts in summer 2017, will get an extreme «makeover». So expect a completely different exterior with interior - British design studio RWD is responsible for that.
The expedition superyacht is expected to be ready for launch in 2019.
Icon Yachts has previously stated that the aim of the transformation is to find the right balance between the influence of British heritage, the image of a medieval warship and sleek modern lines.
Upon completion Project Ragnar will boast an ice-class A1 hull, which is ideal for global expeditions, especially in high latitude areas.
Fully compliant with the LY3 (Large Commercial Yacht Code), Explorer can accommodate 16 guests in eight staterooms. She will also feature two owner suites.
She will feature a full spa area with massage service, pool, Jacuzzi and snow room.
Toy storage and a tender garage will be abundant with space as Project Ragnar can carry a Ripsaw EV2 ATV, a submarine, two jet skis and the same number of «Laser class sailing boats», a pair of 6m RIBs and a duo of 8m tenders including a Castoldi 26.
Not forgetting the fully certified helicopter pad for the multi-purpose Eurocopter EC145.
Power will come from a pair of PC5 diesel-electric engines with a propeller steering column. They will provide a maximum range of 6,000 nautical miles.
